Helicopter departure points changed to reduce urban disruption
As preparations advance for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring, flight operations for passenger helicopters have been rerouted to alleviate noise and disruption for Budapest residents. According to Heli Hungary Kft’s official statement, instead of flying from Budaörs Airport as previously, helicopters will now take off from the Lupa Beach area in the city’s northwest. This new departure location aims to reduce the number of people disturbed by helicopter traffic over the capital.
Heli Hungary explained that on some occasions, due to storage or technical requirements, helicopters might still need to access Budaörs Airport. However, flight paths in those cases will be planned to avoid flying over densely populated areas by routing west of the city. This measure is designed to minimize noise impact and manage helicopter traffic more effectively during the race weekend.
Camera helicopter to capture city highlights during race weekend
In addition to transportation flights, Heli Hungary operates a camera-equipped helicopter tasked with conducting multiple flights over Budapest throughout the Grand Prix weekend. The purpose of these flights is to record promotional images highlighting Hungary’s landscapes and cityscapes, contributing to the country’s international image.
